Berkeley Lab: Make Your Next Discovery Alameda Point

Alameda submitted its proposal for the second campus of the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (LBL) in March.  On Monday, May 9th, Alameda was placed on the short list of sites.  The final site selection will be made in November 2011.

The existing LBL facility in Berkeley has outgrown its size and is looking for space in the East Bay to create a second campus with the potential for two million square feet of space.  The ideal location is at Alameda Point.

The proposed site at Alameda Point offers a setting that will foster creativity and employee satisfaction.  Waterfront access, vast open space and a feeling of connection to both community and the world is what makes Alameda Point the right choice for the second campus of the Lawrence Berkeley Lab.  The waterfront location is just minutes from the ferry terminal, BART, AC Transit, Oakland Airport, hotels, dining, and wonderful neighborhoods in which to live.

If the new lab facility opens at Alameda Point, it will be powered by one of the greenest public utilities in the country – Alameda Municipal Power.  Alameda Municipal Power has won the 2010 Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) for its “From Trash To Treasure – Alameda Municipal Power’s Landfill-Gas-To-Energy Utilization Project.” The City of Alameda, as a direct result of its utility’s power portfolio, ranks lowest in greenhouse gas emissions in Alameda County and among the lowest in the State of California.

  1. Alameda would throw down the red carpet and stand with open arms for the lab.

I learned a lot watching the videos.

  2. The Berkeley Lab employees should voice their support for the Alameda Lab. One afternoon sitting on a bench along the shoreline would convince anyone that they'd rather work in Alameda than the other locations being considered.

  3. Best plan to jump start the Point. Go to "Alameda Loves the Lab" and press "like"!
